Blake Family Grocer – Woodend
This upcoming Blake Family Grocer is a boutique supermarket located in the modern rural village of Woodend at the centre of the Macedon Ranges. The building takes the form of a metal clad rural shed with a contemporary touch. Each of it’s three faces responds to its context with the use of transparency and materiality.
The East face directly responds to the neighboring brick church and smaller scale dwellings. The West cantilevered arm serves as a beacon to the town’s High Street to draw attention down and activate Anslow St. The north face intimates a classic supermarket frontage and is grand entry atrium.
The two courtyards on each side of the entry provide opportunity for tables and chairs to interact with the public spaces. These public spaces are paved with natural stone which flows seamlessly into the building, blending and merging the interior and exterior spaces.
